Why is it so hard to go from A2 to B1?
Many learners reach A2 and feel like they already “know a lot”…but then they get stuck.
You understand quite a bit
But you can’t speak fluently
You feel insecure when talking
This is completely normal.
What really changes at B1 level?
At B1, it’s no longer about just knowing grammar.
You need to:
express your thoughts more freely
connect ideas
react in conversations
It’s the shift from knowing German to using German.
A realistic plan to go from A2 to B1 in German
1. Stop translating everything
Start thinking in simple German sentences.
2. Learn key connectors (this is a game changer)
weil (because)
obwohl (although)
deshalb (therefore)
trotzdem (nevertheless)
These instantly upgrade your level.
3. Start speaking from day one

Don’t wait until you feel “ready”.
4. Use repeatable structures
Ich denke, dass… (I think that…)
Meiner Meinung nach… (In my opinion…)
These help you speak more naturally and confidently.
❌ Common mistakes that keep you stuck
focusing only on grammar
not practicing speaking
waiting for perfection
How long does it take to reach B1?
If you already have a solid A2 level:
👉 Around 2–4 months with consistent practice
Want to finally reach B1?
If you want a clear structure, real speaking practice, and personal feedback:
In my B1.1 German courses, we focus exactly on these skills in very small groups (max. 5 students), so you actually start speaking from the beginning and go from A2 to B1 in German
